Grant Gee | Judith

Judith, commissioned by the Munich Opera House and award-winning theatre director Katie Mitchell, is a ground breaking 40 minute film, directed by Grant Gee, that premiered in Munich in February 2020.

Scored to Bela Bartok’s concerto, the film is a prelude to the 40minute Opera of Bluebeard’s Castle directed by Katie Mitchell. Projected on a film screen at the Opera House, audiences were met with a provocative and challenging film, that tells the story of Bluebeard, his entrapment of women, and one woman's quest to thwart him. The Opera followed the film to resolve the story and starred two of Opera's biggest names, John Lundgren and Nina Stemme.
